Girls' Division - Information and Schedule
The girls' teams for ages 9-13 will represent Capitol Hill in the Palisades Basketball League, part of the Palisades Sports Association. Their Association's philosophy mirrors that of Sports on the Hill,
which encourages children to play sports for enjoyment. It promotes athleticism, self-esteem through sports, good sportsmanship, and opportunities for players of all skill levels, as well as a sense of community and fun. Each grade division will have 4 to 6 teams each so the girls will have the opportunity to play multiple teams.
Team Divisions
We anticipate having seven teams for 2007/2008 from Capitol Hill representing the following divisions:
4th Grade Team: 9-year olds (1 Team)
5th Grade Team: 10-year olds (1 Team)
6th Grade Team: 11-year olds (2 Teams)
7th Grade Team: 12-year olds (1 Team)
8th Grade Team: 13-year olds (2 Teams)
Practice Schedule
Practices and scrimmages will be held at St. Coletta’s School, 1901 Independence Ave. SE (corner of Independence and 19th street, across from RFK/Stadium Armory). Entrance to parking lot is on Independence just past 19th street. Gate will be open to enter lot. Enter gym through main door of school. Security guard will check you in and guide to gym.
Each team will have one practice per week, beginning in Dec. through the first week in March. Practices will be either on Wed. or Thurs. evening (TBD), beginning Dec. 5th & 6th. We will NOT practice between December 22nd and January 1st. First practice after the New Year will be either Jan. 2nd or 3rd, depending on your team.
On Saturdays, Dec. 8th & 15th (following the Kick-Off), there will be fun drills and scrimmages at St. Coletta’s of Greater Washington at the following times:
Game Schedule
We will play games on the following Saturdays in 2008:
(MLK and Presidents holiday weekends will not have games; we may organize fun scrimmages at St. Coletta’s; Times TBD)
Below are the range of times that the team by grade will play on Saturdays:
8th grade: Lafayette Rec Center from 12 noon to 3:00 p.m.
7th grade: Lafayette Rec Center from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon
6th grade: Key School from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
5th grade: Key School from 11:30am to 1:30 pm.
4th grade: Key School from 1:30pm to 4:00 pm.
(Each team will have a one-hour game slot within their assigned time frame)
